A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates the number of adults who smoke in the U.S. is at a historic low – or at least the lowest since the CDC started tracking smoking rates in 1965.
In 2005, the smoking rate for adults was 20.9%. Fast forward 8 years to 2013, the CDC estimates it to have dropped to 17.8%.
