Whether you are new to vaping or have been enjoying this alternative to traditional cigarettes for quite some time, you are most likely interested in what is in your e-cig. As an electronic cigarette user, you have options and choices when it comes to deciding what is best for you.
E-liquids generally consist of four main ingredients: water, nicotine, a flavoring of your choosing and a base liquid made up of PG (Propylene Glycol) or VG (Vegetable Glycerin). You may have heard of these, but aren’t really certain as to what they are.
Electronic cigarettes consist of either PG, VG or some mixture of the two. VG is a thicker, sweet liquid and produces a large amount of vapor for the user. Some people enjoy the sweetness of the VG, while others consider it too sweet! It’s called Vegetable Glycerin because it is derived from vegetables. VG is considered a safe product and can be found in a variety of products including medicines, cosmetics and various food products.
PG is used more often than VG because it is very thin and considered to give the user a satisfying throat hit. It is sweet, but not as sweet as VG. However, some people are allergic to PG and can experience side effects such as dry mouth, an upset stomach and nausea. Some people have to quit using PG altogether and switch to VG instead, whereas others may only require a slight adjustment in the amount of PG they use.
Whatever combination you use, it is all about choice and personal preference. An 80/20 or 70/30 mixture is common (the higher percentage being PG). As a new user you may need to try out several different combinations to find out what is most satisfying to you!
